I wonder if NX is a portable PS4 basically.

The form factor will have to be much different because a 3DS sized portable can't handle such a chip, but the more research I do on the Polaris 11 (this the laptop version of the Polaris line) the more I'm thinking this is what Nintendo chose.

It can fit into ultra-thin laptop casings and can even be passively cooled ... that's a pretty huge deal. Something like that could likely easily fit into a chasis the size of the Wii U tablet, or perhaps not need a fan.

A Nintendo portable that can display PS4-style graphics would be ... a fairly decent game changer for them because they'd have the 3DS style userbase, but with the ability for developers to actually bring their highest end games to it. That's one of the Nintendo's major problems right now ... 3DS has the raw userbase size, but the Wii U has the console power without the userbase though, lol, so developers (especially in the West) just say "fuck it" to both of them.

You do realize that that 4K VR content is video, not games, right?

I realize that but that's still pretty cool. The Polaris 11 is still targeted to ultra thin form factors, I think that's what Nintendo has chosen. It'll give them PS4 style performance with the possibility of portability too. New form factor is probably appealling to them too because it's new/different which always is something Nintendo craves.

It sounds more and more like the two design "wins" that AMD scored were for PS4Neo (Polaris 10 + x86?) and NX (Polaris 11 + ARM?).
