Microsoft or Blackberry haven't been able to make any headway in the phone market.

People want Apple or Android's ecosystem and nothing but, and Nintendo's brand is too associated with kids to be taken seriously overnight by adults who basically rely on their phone for their entire social and business life. It wouldn't fly and Nintendo has nowhere near the marketing acumen to pull it off.

They have problems selling video games to modern teenagers ... as a video game company. Good luck with phones and adults.

Like I said if they wanted to go this route the best thing to do would simply be to team up with Apple and/or Samsung and make Nintendo branded controllers for existing phones that people actually want. No one's looked the crappy Wii/3DS/DS/Wii U OS and said "gee I'd love for this to be the OS for my phone which I depend on for my job and keeping in touch with all my friends". Nintendo can't even get cross platform purchases working seamlessly.

Wiiu OS make good job, it works like Android, there is some apps like Netflix or youtube apps,  easy to surf on Web because wiiu have panel screen...

And run on ARM processor...

The heart of Nintendo is the software, in 2014 Iwata say " on Apple and Android, there is one way of programming,  Nintendo have to be like them indid... "

Nintendo works on a big OS,  probably Android frienly, perhaps advanced cloud computing fonctions... and looking at all connected devices,  make family of products like Apple... In first smartphone...

No grown adult would be happy with a Nintendo OS ... people rely on phones for their *life*, not just having some fun on the side. A phone OS has to work flawlessly, have incredibly wide breadth of functionality, function flawlessly in a business/college/work setting, be very fast, and offer hundreds of thousands of apps.

Nintendo? C'mon. Nintendo is a company of like 5000 people. Most of whom don't know the first thing about making an OS, they are game designers. EA has more employees. Apple has 100,000+ employees. Microsoft is 118,000. Nintendo is not going to make some type of OS superior to iOS/Android/Windows Phone .... that's never going to happen. Not to mention the cost investment needed, you can't just make an OS for a few million bucks, it would require the largest investment in Nintendo's history.
