Yeah yeah I'm sorry. Long-running probably isn't the best poll title...I was trying to pick a good mix of villains from series that are either ongoing, relevant, or were popular recently. Seven Deadly Sins and Assassination Classroom are pretty huge in Japan currently, even though the anime for both are fairly recent, so they seemed relevant enough.
I put Other in the poll to account for potential brainfarts....so there!
Anyways, there are quite a few villains in the list I liked. Asano and Aizen were terrific, terrifying yet interesting at the same time. Even with Asano's sympathetic backstory, he's still one of the biggest draws for me into Assassination Classroom.
My pick though...goes to Blackbeard from One Piece. Despite his outward appearance, he's one of the most cunning and terrifying villains in the series, and the realization of what all of his actions in Part I had wrought really cemented his greatest villain status. The death of Thatch, his fight with Ace, his appointment into the Shichibukai, and finally his actions in Impel Down and Marineford...everything built up to his current status. He almost strikes me as a Game of Thrones villain thrown into a shonen action series, rather than your typical cocky bishouen mastermind. And I like to give Oda props for that.
His character also proves to be a great foil for Luffy, following a severely different path, despite sharing the same motivations. Heck, he almost seemed like an ally during his first appearance.

Yeah, I know...I'm using a manga panel because I couldn't find an anime screencap I liked.
Lots of great villains to choose from...but overall, Blackbeard just overtakes them all for me.
