I edited my post to just talk about 1995. 1994 was better for Nintendo....but 1995 in the USA was pretty bad. It was just mostly Virtual Boy outside of Earthbound, Yoshi's Island, and Donkey Kong Country 2.
Full list of Nintendo published games for that year:

Except ... '95 was really good. I remember NOA crowing about having the "big 3" fall titles ... Killer Instinct, SMW2: Yoshi's Island, and Donkey Kong Country 2.
Earthbound in the US too.
Third party games like Chrono Trigger were great and Mortal Kombat was still going strong with MK3.
Yoshi's Island, DKC2, Earthbound, and Chrono Trigger I think you can make a pretty good case for being 4 of the 20 best Nintendo console games ever and they all came out in one year. I mean that's not bad at all, Nintendo's 1993 was their weakest SNES year.
