They revitalized it with Awakening, saving the franchise indeed, but Awakening isn't what made the franchise be mainstream. It just popularized its potential. And SRPGs overall are niche? There's a lot of unsuccessful or obscure SPRGs, but there are also a lot of successful ones.

Overall i think it is niche. Maybe not as much as other specific genres but other than FE and FF tatics what other srpgs do over 1mil? In japan it might not be as much but in the west i think it really is. You can prove me wrong though (if im wrong. :p)
