Yes they were a fairly significant purchase for Nintendo. One that is worth considerably more now, so Nintendo is going to make a large profit.
Also Howard Lincoln former Chairman at Nintendo of America was running the Mariners. He wanted to retire, so that reportedly a big iaeptus for Nintendo wanting to sell the team.
Lincoln is one of the core members of Nintendo.
