If Nintendo is shipping to retailers/vendors during the Jan - March period and selling in March (which by their announcement they are, since the release date is March 2017), then they will be able to book that revenue for that fiscal 4th quarter 2017 and Kimishima statement will still be correct.  So a Jan-Mar 2017 release was always on the table, thus you being wrong.

On average, going back to the Nintendo 64, Nintendo ships ~ 3.5 million units of what ever console is being release to the end of that said quarter:

DS 2.84M

Wii 3.19M

Wii U 3.06M

3DS 3.61M

Gamecube 3.29 (510k from japan not added)

N64 5.8 (released sept in the US 1996)

GBA 4.7 (march and june releases 2001)

So the NX is likely to have a number of 3+M.... for FY2017 (which is subject to be higher as they are release it worldwide on the same date)

Nintendo's forecast for the fiscal year that ends in March 2017 is an operating income of 45 billion yen, a goal that falls clearly short of Nintendo-like profits. But just three months ago Kimishima said that Nintendo is going to achieve Nintendo-like profits again, starting in the fiscal year that ends in March 2017. The drastic reduction in the expected profits can only be explained with a very recent decision to delay NX. Four months of additional hardware and software sales are going to be missing because of the March 2017 launch of NX.

The other option is that three months ago Kimishima deliberately lied to investors by voluntarily mentioning two key contributors to Nintendo-like profits (one of the being NX), even though he was only asked to name one.

I wonder if Nintendo is in a fix with whatever the NX's "launch showcase title" is and what if it simply wasn't going to be finish in time?  What do you do? Perhaps this is the awkward situation Kimishima got placed into. Imagine for whatever reason Wii Sports was delayed and unable to make the launch for the Wii ... as Nintendo you're put into a very uncomfortable position.

Beyond that, Nintendo can be dicks sometimes but I don't think they would have put the "2016" on the Zelda trailer just a few months ago either knowing all along that they were targetting March 2017. That's just really spiteful if they did it on purpose.
