The problem is that you would need to severely lower or even remove most post-processing effects, and even then the frame rates would be dubious. I don't think people realize how much power is needed for rendering 4k at acceptable frame rates, even with lowered settings overall.
Immense resolution with poor effects is kind self defeating as a visual concept, the lack of effects will become all the more clear with a crisper picture resolution on bigger displays, same goes for frame rates.
Current consoles will never be able to output proper 4k gaming at decent frame rates, and if they were to update devices with the capacity to do so, these would tear through the pricing tiers like a mad elephant and basically be elite boxes with a tiny, niche market.
