I've been looking into the Razor "Blade" as well ever since these patents first surfaced and what Nintendo wants to do is fundamentally different. The blade can only be used in an "Or" situation with the Razor, it doesn't work in tandem with the laptops gpu to provide more power. Plus Nintendo's network and the SCD device would be intertwined with the systems OS to always provide a connected peer to peer network in concert with a traditional external servers. The Blade is definitely the closest thing that resembles this patent that Nintendo filed, but it's way to expensive of a device to be mainstream.
