People go on about how Wii only sold because of a gimmick but it had a pretty stellar lineup in its first year.

Not just its first year either; in 2010 alone it got Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Monster Hunter Tri, Goldeneye 007, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Sin & Punishment 2, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Red Steel 2, No More Heroes 2, Sonic Colours, Black Ops, Epic Mickey, Sonic All Stars Racing...

Wii U never had a year that good.
