And what is point of 1440p resolution in 2016, who actually have TV with 1440p resolution!? Wii U was mostly 720p/60fps hardware, Nintendo with NX probably aiming 1080p/60FPS with 4K support for media.

If you have a 4KTV you can enjoy resolutions beyond 1080P so sure why not offer the option for those who have, that is to say if they don't really want to take the time to redo graphical assets and just use the Wii U base, well if your hardware is powerful enough and go beyond 1080P ... then sure why not.
