I played as the synth/piano for my one friends band. We didn't have a name, but I did get $50 and a free lunch for a gig that all I had to do was play for like 30 minutes.
I also played as an opener for Rebeca St. James once, other than that it was just coffee houses and at churches. My largest crowed was probably ~3k people.
So I've made a total of $50 out of ~$3000 invested in instruments. I ended up an engineer, and now at least I make money
