Well, that was with lower ticket prices, only one of the two huge Superheroes (probably the best known with Spider-Man) and the Chinese market not so huge (I believe The Dark Knight didn't even release there). If these movies would release in 2016 they would maybe even reach $1.5bn and if BvsS would be liked by more peeps, it would also reach it.

If Deadpool would have released in China and Japan, BvsS would beat Deadpool only marginal (if even that, depends how successful Deadpool would be there) This is just laughable if you think about it.

Well TDKR was only a few years ago. Prices are not much different since then. But I get your point.

Prices didn't increase that much since TDKR but they increased and the Chinese market expoded since then (it's now like 4x bigger as it was when TDKR released). Not sure about the market in South America, Africa or other Asian countries but maybe there is also strong growth.

Thing is, reaching $1bn  in 2016 is not a huge achievement compared to reaching it some years ago. People said that BvsS would reach $1bn and how that would make it one of the 25 most successful movies of all time and how great it is but I find this discussion useless when I think about how many more movies would be at $1bn if they would release in 2016 and not years ago without releasing in a now huge Chinese market, with lower ticket prices and maybe without or at least with weaker other markets.

Now BvsS will probably not even reach the top 30 of all time even with the help of China, Batman, Superman, a huge marketing budget and so on...to me this looks bad and not good.
