I actually disagree, even ignoring when they were made, I find 64's worlds significantly more interesting than 3D World's or Sunshine's. There are more unique features, more cool things to discover, and more variety.

See I actually feel variety is the least of 3D World's problems.  It brings plenty of experimental levels and challenging obstacles.  For me it's the length of the game and the size of the levels I find annoying at times.  But feel free to disagree with me here.  I mean, I have a similar feeling playing Ocarina of Time for the first time now on 3DS.  But then maybe that's the trick: most of my experiences with OoT and SM64 came after playing other games and I never played them as much as others when they released.  Although I feel with OoT (even more so than with SM64) I could objectively defend my position :P

The short levels and the time limit are both issues in my view, but I did also feel that the levels were a bit too simple at times. It felt like in order to accomodate four players they had to avoid the whackier level designs that made the Galaxy games or 64 so memorable.
