Iwata said a lot of things, he promised the Wii U would not have a post-launch drought like the 3DS had for example. That sure worked out well. Towards the end of the GameCube's lifecycle Iwata said Nintendo would introduce new accessories that would increase the life span of the GameCube (that never happened).
Nintendo in general has said a lot of bullshit, for example they denied a report from Nikkei claiming a 3DS XL was coming ... and then announced a ... 3DS XL 3 weeks later.
The Wii U has its Animal Crossing game. It's called Amiibo Festival. That's all there is to it.
