This still doesn't eliminate the possibility that there will be difficulty modes in the game to choose from. Perhaps there could be even harder modes to choose from?

It's possible there are other options to increase the difficulty, yes, but it's pretty clear that this is the mode they talked about earlier where your defense is lowered but offense is raised.

No, (hence "apparently" in the thread title) and I'll be overjoyed to say I was wrong if it turns out this isn't the only way to unlock it.
