I agree that former leading horror franchises have fallen behind like Resident Evil and Silent Hill but imo some of the new horror games like SOMA and Alien: Isolation offer quality experiences as well. Though not as good as classic RE and SH I also think Outlast, Amnesia, The Evil Within, Layers of Fear and Until Dawn are worth checking out. I look forward to try Allison Road and Routine in VR.

Actually forgot that I have played some of those (Outlast and Alien ISolation).

They were definitely good games, but I'm still hoping for more. They had good atmosphere but weren't actually scary.
