And creating something at par with Steam is probably gonna cost a lot of money. Also to encourage support, get exclusives on the service, etc.

Anyhow, Windows Store is basically what MS should be doing. Its a market place for video, music, and games. They just need to put lots of their games on it to get people using it. They don't need ot compete with Steam, its a service that thrives on Windows.

Steam thrives on Windows because its an open platform, a fact which in terms of game software revenue doesn't benefit MS much at all hence Windows Store. If just being on Windows was enough, MS wouldn't need and or attempt either a storefront or GFWL.

That's why the phrase "PC as a Windows/MS platform" with respect to games is an empty statement.

That's why they are absolutely competing with Steam, as is every other store front on PC. They don't get free wins because they payed for(developed) the stadium(OS). <- (The crudest of analogies)

I get what you're saying, but Steam encourages people to use Windows by offering Windows content. Therefore MS is profiting one way or another.

Windows Store is vehicle for some of MS's other endeavors. Video and music distribution being the focus of that for years, now games is getting a push.

GFWL was just games and clearly pushing PC games alone doesn't appeal to MS. Instead MS started Windows Store and closed GFWL not long after.

Windows Store doesn't compete directly with Steam. They are very different in what they offer. Much of their content is mobile games and now MS exclusives.
