AMD has introduced XConnect, a form of driver-level support for external graphics cards, as part of its latest Radeon 16.3 driver. This is pretty cool. Id imagine that if the consoles ever do allow upgrades it would be something like this, except maybe without the user being able to add their own GPU.

It's happening! Now we just have to wait if it really becomes an industry standard. At least with usbC/thunderbolt standard connections it is staring good for now.
