Just look at WWHD, which uses the same engine.  It has big frame rate drops at certain moments due to the addition of the lighting enhancements and that's only one piece.

The framerates drops in both WWHD and TPHD seem to be caused by the same thing; layering alpha transparencies over a 1080p framebuffer. Digitial Foundry suspects that doing so causes bandwidth problems for Wii U.

This is a "remaster"-mod done by a FAN: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSDVY6Q9pfk

Somewhat amateurish artistic implementation aside, this looks much better than the Wii U release, (not that the Wii U release looks bad, just dated) and shows what a difference lighting makes. I'd much rather they ran TPHD at 720p and used the additional fillrate for better lighting and shaders myself. Throw in some well implemented HDR, normal mapping, and per-pixel lighting, and it'd look fantastic.
