Aside from all the Mexican friends I have, you're right. I have no source. I can only regurgitate what they tell me their reasons are for leaving Mexico, some of which include "The area I'm from has become too dangerous" and "It's nearly impossible to move up in life." When asked why they visit Mexico, they claim that some of their family is there, typically either because of attachment to the land or because they refuse to acknowledge the horrible things that are happening around them.
