Not sure about "worst thing to happen this generation", but Amiibo are indeed fucking cancerous.

Locking on-disc content behind under-supplied plastic figurines is Konami levels of despicable. Not all of us give a fuck about collecting toys, we just want to be able to access all the content in the game we payed full price for.
