Xenoblade Chronicles X says hi. And Retro weren't "brought in to make dark/mature games". They were brought in to make games. That YOU think Nintendo needs more dark/mature games doesn't mean that Retro should be forced to make them. Especially when Nintendo is just as capable of making them with other studios, both internal (Monolith) and external (Platinum). The fact of the matter is, if any studio were forced to make games they didn't want to make, the quality of said games would be much worse. What you're advocating for is Nintendo dictating from above - correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't exactly that been the reason why so many third parties are so cautious about working with Nintendo? Because Nintendo were somewhat dictatorial about their consoles in the past? But hey, to hell with logic. |
Xenoblade X and it's ilk are not enough. Nintendo is drowning in E-rated family fare but severely lacked M/T rated exclusives.
And no, this is not about what I want. Nintendo specifically acquired Retro to make mature games:

"Nintendo hoped that with Jeff's experience and leadership, Retro Studios would be able to provide Nintendo's new console with games targeted at an older demographic"
