Review Standards for Videogames: Out of 100 points
Originality: This game, much like Sticker Star, was more of a return to normal experience than games like Super Paper Mario, Bowsers Inside Story, or Dream Team. Where those games found interesting ways to innovate, this game stuck with a familiar formula that we are all used to. The one pleasant change that stood out was the inclusion of the paper craft battle arenas. Something else about this game compared to it’s predecessors that was unique was the inclusion of a variety of mini games (both optional ones and ones you have to do to make progression). Those mini games, as charming as they were at times, were quite repetitive feeling, however. Overall, this was not a wonderfully unique experience.

Graphics: It’s the same engine as Dream Team, a game that I scored 8 out of 10 on at the time. My issue is that I continue to hate the character models used in the ML series, but everything else about the game looked wonderfully colorful.
8/10
Art Style: Same art style as Dream Team, except this time the game had the Paper models too. I really enjoyed playing an entire game where there was a mix of two worlds and two art styles. Very cool!

Story: While this was no Thousand Year Door or Inside Story in quality, it was certainly better than Sticker Star. I really loved the whole two of all the villains’ things. All the little infighting that took place was pretty funny (I have lots of screenshots!). I also really like how they brought back characters that we haven’t seen before in either of these game series (but were in other Mario games). And it was interesting how the game didn’t use any grand star or star like object that the Bowsers were after. It was all about building the biggest Paper craft and making that Castle super powerful, which is different from what all other ML and Paper Mario games have been.

Game Interface: Annoying or not? Good.
5/5
Controls easy and fluid or difficult and rigid? Easy controls, no issues. Just a matter of timing attacks/defenses.
5/5
Is it fun? Yes it is, but it does get repetitive at times with all the mini missions and, if you really don’t like that type of stuff, this game probably isn’t the best thing for you.

* Means it was more fun than the score indicates. Scores judge the overall quality of the game (how fun it is only counts for 15% in my reviews)
NR means Not Recommended based on inappropriateness.
^Charm is rewarded to games that have an undefinable quality to them that makes them amazing and have high replayability value.
