Even fans have a limit for the amount of horseshit they will tolerate.

Screwing over Wii U owners, which comprise the core Nintendo loyalists who stuck with them through thick and thin, could bite them in the arse hard. If they estrange what little remains of their dwindling fanbase, NX would be an even bigger flop than Wii U, and Nintendo's days as a hardware manufacturer would be over.

I can't quite agree with this post either.

NX won't need the Wii U fanbase to become a success, and if all NX had to fall back on was the Wii U fanbase, then it would be doomed to be a flop anyway. Besides, it's not like the GC to Wii transition was all rosy. Quite a few of the (supposed) core Nintendo loyalists were up in arms because the Wii was such a betrayal. Pleasing loyalists isn't exactly a recipe for success because their demands and wishes are often in line with what got Nintendo into trouble to begin with. What I am trying to say is that Nintendo success cannot come without pissing off a good chunk of the loyalists.

But you are right that not releasing Zelda on Wii U would be a completely unnecessary thing to do.

Keeping all your fans happy all the time is naturally impossible, and a fool's errand, yes.

But we've seen with incidents like Xbox One's DRAM fiasco that pissing off consumers can backfire hard. Making Zelda NX exclusive would do more harm than good in my opinion.
