You know which two things pop up way too infrequently in Fire Emblem Fates discussions?

1. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
2. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

Two games that only offer a true ending when played one after another. Nintendo charged full price for each cartridge.

But instead of this most logical example for something similar, people start to bring up Pokémon or trilogies of games.

It's a spectrum, which seems the best way to describe it.

Ages and Seasons are on the spectrum of full games which, when played together, offer additional content.

Pokemon is on the other end of the spectrum where it's virtually the same game, but when played together, offer some additional content (crossing pokemon over).

Fates is somewhere in the middle. A decent portion of different content, some mostly the same, and in some cases much of the same, and offers additional content when all entries are played in tandem.

If From a scale of 1-10, 1 being Pokemon and 10 for LoZ Ages+Seasons, fates is around an 8. Definitely not in the middle. FE shares first 5 chapters (which are the beginners chapters basically) and the same universe. Playing both games will easily be completely different which isnt the case for pokemon.

Most important part is the actual game layout, which birthright and conquest differ in so many ways :0
