My post isn't about whether the NPD Group should or should not release data publicly. Its more that no one should expect or believe that they are owed that data. The NPD Group, like many market research firms, do not release their data in the public domain or for free. They provide a paid service to clients and its up to them what data they want to release publicly. The Interactive Entertainment industry isn't the only industry where market research firms charge for detailed data. So whilst I fully understand the comparison to the film industry releasing data publicly, it's not exactly the same thing.
That being said, I'm all for a more open industry where data is more widely available. But expecting people to leak that data when they're under NDA is wrong. |
I was referring more to the post you claimed was smartest post you've read in a while. You agreed to it, but gave a different reason to the post you agreed to. I agree with what you wrote but not the post you agreed with, if that makes sense.
