Out of curiousity, I decided to see how bad women in Japan have it.

Longest Female Life Expectancy in the world, with men living 7 years less on average... Guaranteed Gender Equality under their Constitution... A lack of female politicians, but they are better represented on a national than local level... the wage gap is real, but seems connected to how part-time jobs are overwhelmingly filled by women... Divorce is available... a majority of women are college graduates... Abortions are restricted but allowed... There's been an epidemic of stalkers, but that occured once "nasty emails" were categorized as stalking... Workplace Harassment is a real problem... Domestic Abuse has historically been hard to measure...

From the looks of it, Japan seems to be roughly average or upper-middle in terms of womens' rights. Well Behind Scandanavia and whatnot, but still ahead of many countries in the Americas, Asia, and Africa.

Love and tolerate.
