However I have to add that you shouldn't assume people believed the way ppopular culture assumes they did. For instance they didn't really believe the world was flat, and I gauruntee a lot of people (Maybe most) back then didn't REALLY think a chariot pulled the sun. Philosophers didn't, no. But most people did, just like most people still hold a religious belief today.
And I dunno, you'd have to be fairly hardcore to make THAT many statues of dieties you don't believe in. Or the temples.
