There is "Don't count your chickens before they hatch". In French, it's different though, it's "Il ne faut pas vendre la peau de l'ours avant de l'avoir tuer" which would translate to "Don't sell a bear's pelt before you've killed him".

Those french seem wild. And yes, that is a perfect translation!
