TBH, and I don't know if it is the same in Sweden as it is here, but rape was something that wasn't reported by many women because it was always seen as the womans fault and shameful, that she must be a slut and wanted it but then said no blah blah attitute.

Now days, women are more open to reprting without society looking at them in a bad way. Therefore I honestly think that rape figures have gone up because more women report the incident than they used to in the past.

Absolutely, it has changed radically, especially in the 21st century. The government has broadened what can be seen as rape so also include partial rape, and a person at the age of 18+ having sex with someone under 15. They have also broadened the cases for what should be considered sexual assault or harassment. Sweden is considered to have the broadest definition of secual assault which partially explain our higher numbers.

More and more women report cases of rape, but the crime statistics department has done several examinations so see if actual cases have increased and it doesn´t seem like it, more that the legal system has become better at convicting in rape cases. It is also more common that men report cases of being raped so it´s great that more people feel secure enough to speak out, but it´s saddening that so many cases happen every year.
