Sony were trade marking to create a campaign similar to Greatness Awaits. It would have made little to no difference, unless Sony would have gone full dwerp, which is quite unlikely.

So the YouTubers wouldn't have had to pay Sony to use it?

No, it was going to be like the strap line they use in adverts and marketing like #Greatness Awaits & #this is for the players.

There was an article discussing the actual filling and use of the trademark rather than the commotion it caused. I was trying to find it last night but it looks like it's buried deep under the "errrrmmaaaagaaaawwwdd Sony trying to Trademark Let's Play" articles. If I find it I'll put it up.
