They could blow the shit out of a PS4, PS4 is dated and nothing special. The only wildly interesting things about the PS4 from a modern POV is the large amount of GDDR5 RAM, otherwise the CPU is ass and the GPU is weak. The GameCube was a good deal beyond a PS2 and was only 18 months later, Nintendo has 3+ years here.
If Nintendo goes for a gimped 900p, less powerful than PS4 console ... that's their choice, but it's not because it's the only thing they could have. But in that case you likely were going to get a gimped console in 2018 or whenever, it doesn't matter because that's a design choice on Nintendo's part.
