that's option 1.

vita has some exclusive games.

ps3/ps4 has some exclusive games.

vita and ps3/4 have some straight ports that are cross buy

vita and ps3/4 have some high/low graphics ports custom to each system that are seperate purchases.

geez,. that sounds a lot like NX huh?

You're right that I did misunderstand your first point.

You and I are on the same page. This is what I believe Nintendo will do. But I don't think they're going to take premier titles like Zelda, and make them cross-buy or give away the game on one platform for free.

okay, then yes we do indeed seem to be on the same page.  i just wonder if nintendo can be more successful here than sony was.  on paper this cross-buy stuff sounds like a customer dream come true.  at the very least i love the fact that i can decide which platform i want to play a game like super meat boy or broken age because i have them for both vita and ps4 without having to buy it twice.  for me super meat boy just feels right on a handheld while i'd prefer the big screen for broken age.

..but the big critisism for vita is most of its library is also ps3/4 so why bother having both devices.  i wonder how nintendo's overall fortunes are impacted if a lot of nintendo fans decide owning both platforms isn't needed anymore and then just buy one or the other.

I think it's also worth nothing that Sony, for the most part, has completely abandoned the cross-buy strategy for anything other than indies and other smaller games. I don't think it payed off too well for them.
