The Pain arc was honestly the last arc in that series that really interested me, but even then I could tell I wouldn't like the direction it was going. I preferred Naruto as the goofy underdog, so turning him into the Chosen One who comes from a clan of Super Saiyans absolutely ruined his story for me. The sad thing is how Naruto actually spoke out against fate in Part I...only for Part II to throw that whole theme out the window. What the heck?! I had a lot of other faults with the story at that point...but I still read it until ~600 or so before dropping it. The manga just seemed so foreign to me at that point, so I couldn't bring myself to care about it. And from the spoilers I've read regarding the ending...it seems like Kishi was the same way.
Hm...well the author seemed to love Sasuke, so if he was a character you were interested in you would might enjoy it. It was the opposite for me, which is another reason I grew exhausted of the series. His descent just grew too far into the realm of disbelief...at a certain point it baffled me how anyone could possibly relate to him. Hinata though....frick. If you saw the Chunin Exam arc then you probably know everything there is to know about her character. The poor girl dissapears for like 400 chapters, and only returns for one short scene that the anime severely exaggerates before dissapearing for another 200 chapters or so. I suppose her ending was positive...for what it's worth, but if you were interested in her story then you would definitely be dissapointed.
Eh...the current manga arc has had some high points, but it's been dragging on for a while. For the last year it's basically been giving every character a Bankai or a true Bankai or a modified Bankai. I still read it...but it's definitely a far cry from the Shinigami and Arrancar arcs. Aizen and Grimmjow have returned...but have basically done nothing for the past year....which also makes me annoyed since I liked their characters. The only positive I'd give it is that the new villain is pretty interesting...even if his keikaku is Aizen levels of absurd. |
It's true that the final arc has been dragging recently, but that's just Kubo's style, almost no dialogue so you can basically read a chapter in less than 2 minutes, the last few months in paricular, nothing of importance has really happened. I do think the anime can fix this problem when it arrives, but nevertheless I do think this arc overall has been great. Also it seems like it's gonna pick up the pace next week.
