All these recent claims of censorship is simply Japanese gaming companies wanting to maintain a certain image in the west. Which means they are either embarassed (most likely the reason in this case) or afraid of getting negative PR for racist, sexists or other culturally inappropriate content. Because it certainly has nothing to do with what gamers will buy and nothing to do with government interference.

 

Actually it is censorship.  Nintendo has decided that the game will not be released in the US without this feature removed.  Therefore Nintendo is censoring the game.
