Except we're not bothering with econmics we're looking at the situation as it played out, Wii was £179 back when the financial crash took place putting many countries in recession, two years later it's around £130 when MK Wii and Brawl arrived after a price cut before eventually being £99 another two years after that. Wii U was 250-300 quid and has stayed at that price through out and even when it launched in 2012 the were still economic problems especially in Europe with the Euro. Your analogy is poor because it's more closer to you meet a woman, you start taking full care of her and all then you just stop one day, she leaves as a result and you think it's her that was the issue. Nintendo and third parties aren't making these games because they currently were following a strategy to cater to the cores thinking the group would follow by default. They threw out their old startegies of cater to them with out realizing those were still very much required, that crowd was never going to drop between 250-300 quid even more more so if they're not being catered to. |
Why doesn't Nintendo just make a $100 casual platform then? Fuck all this Metroid and Zelda nonsense that they don't like anyway, just make 100% casual games for them all day long.
If casual gamers are so "good" and hardcore gamers are "bad", then just make a system for them and see if they show up. I doubt they will.
I can tell you something though ... if you're going to ask for even $10+ games, you're going to be in for a rude awakening. Why do we all need to play on the same system? It's like trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
Even that new AppleTV which has casual games and a Wiimote like remote is not doing that great and that's with Apple's backing. Playing casual games on your TV is passe .... smart devices can go anywhere, they're just far more convienant to the life style of someone who's life isn't that centralized around playing some video games.
Again, if I delivered free milk to your door every Monday, even if it's not the exact brand you usually get ... would you still pay for milk at the supermarket? I really, really doubt it. Casual gaming belongs to Apple and Google now, Nintendo trying to compete would be laughable at this point, they don't have the marketing, their products look like toys in comparison, and they're asking for $30+ a game. No chance in hell.
