Because if they combine all their manpower in one device, this situation will be a lot different than with Wii U... for the best.
Imagine if you could buy 1 console on this gen and you can get: Mario Kart 8, Smash, Xenoblade X, Pikmin 3, Luigi's Mansion 2, Pokemon X/Y and all nintendo published games. That is the concept of the Nx that is being repeated in this site billions time. That's a all new situation, you can't possible believe this wouldn't make Nintendo on a better situation than the 70M+ userbase that they are now. And Imagine how it would affect their SW sales positively.
By the way at this point a price cut would only help to make come close to 20M and Nintendo is focusing on make NX a success, so don't expect anything big being revealed for Wii U
