As costumes ...

Which would have been fine if that's all amiibo were, but since some amiibo have special functionality, this captain falcon amiibo isn't going to cut it, I have to buy others.

go ahead and tell me how this pit amiibo unlocks multiplayer in shovel knight.

Well, it says a lot that you need to use the only amiibo that is not made by Nintendo in order to find the worst case of amiibo functionality by far.

But i get what you say the thing is... is still compatible with all those games and this is the kind of content that most of them unlocks anyways, very lame and secondary content that would not exists if wasnt because they need it to add something for the sake of amiibo. Just look what even the exclusive amiibo unlocks in games like Tp HD, its so lame...so little, so irrelevant...  but if you buy it you have a lot of secondary irrelevant things to unlock in many other games if you want, as many times as you want, the exclusive content is just barely less lame than the rest.

I was giving an example about possible scenarios. But I guess it didn't matter since it was an indie dev and not Nintendo doing this (even though Nintendo has every right and possibility to do this in the future).

Also, who are you to judge what's irrelevant and second rate for the general public? As someone else pointed out, this small thing for you means something else for someone else. Also (assuming this stuff is irrelevant) who's to say Nintendo won't stoop low and start locking things of more substance (like multiplayer, or parts of a story).

i would have been fine if amiibo were only costumes, or they unlocked stuff that could be unlocked through games, but it's starting to go beyond that. Which is why I equate it to paid dlc.
