In regards to Amiibo in general, I'm personally annoyed by Amiibo because I dont like collecting figurines at all and locking content only to them and not allowing it be bought on eshop for cheaper because you are only buying the content and not the amiibo seems crummy.
I recognized this makes Amiibo somewhat pointless to have if you want to buy for cool content BUT people are mainly buying it to complete a collection. And if Nintendo really wants to make a game with good Amiibo functionality just make their own Skylander and Infinity game. Dont lock hard mode or extra costumes in Splatoon just to force people to buy a $13 figurine to buy dlc that should be less than $5.
