If they are seperate platforms the 3DS successor has to take priority over the NX (home console).
I really don't like the chances of a seperate Nintendo console going forward ... even if it launches in 2017 ... what is it supposed to be?
A PS4-XB1 level machine? In that case PS4-XB1 will so far ahead that it's nothing but a no.3 console until the next real cycle starts. Even XB1 by 2017 will be past 40 million install base and Sony will probably be double that.
If it's supposed to be a PS5 level console ... good luck making games for that Nintendo. They can't even handle HD development as is without huge delays, and the jump to PS4/XB1 level is significant enough that many games are being delayed even from studios that have a decade's worth of HD experience. Going another rung above that with PS5 ...
NX really needs to be a unified platform. Taking emotion and "I wish" out of the equation there's no logical way I can see that working, it's not even good for Nintendo or the consumer (unless you like spending $500+ on hardware just to play Nintendo games).
