Splatoon, XCX and Fire Emblem: Awakening spring to mind immediately. If that happens then you're probably on to a winner.
Given that though I'd probably have to give it to Splatoon, thanks to the sheer innovation on offer. XCX is an excellent followup to an already excellent game, the same for Awakening. Whereas Splatoon came out and did something totally different and caught me (like many others) off guard. We need more of that nowadays.
