Controls did play their part, but it is the games that made Wii a success, and lack of them that made Wii U fail. The market didn't change, it was Nintendo that did.

what games did WIi U lack? The shovelware? Cause those are the only ones truly missing on that system. Damn near every popluar game on WIi (at least made by Ninty) had a follow up on Wii U but it still didnt help.

For starters, there was no no Wii U Sports, it only had recycled NSMB instead of a truly new game, the lack of Metroid Prime is pretty obvious. SM3DW is a game that 3D Mario fans obviously do not care about, nor do the 2D Mario fans. DKC:TF is pretty fucked up with tropical freeze (nobody want's a game about ice world, ice worlds suck). Competition is removed from Mario Party. Kirby who? The thing is, that even as some of the games had a sequel, they're just mediocre games. Where's Excite Truck, that'd be a fun game with online and improved tracks. Yoshi, a kids game, like it's these days.

I don't think it wasn't until 2015 that Wii U started to look appealing if you look it's games library. Wii U has a handful of first party games that are interesting, but outside of the said games, there's much about nothing that would spark an interest. I would gladly welcome all the shovelware if Wii U had more of the better games.
