I think the main reason for the split is the simple fact that people just associate FF with Sony these days. Basically throughout one of the biggest video game boom periods to date from the late 90's to late 2010's the main series Final Fantasies were exclusively on Sony's consoles. So people just grew accustomed to the fact that if you want to play a Final Fantasy, you get it on a Sony console.
One game on a competing platform can't really change that.
