Can you count? The reason we're in the eight generation is a result of simple mathematics. The 3DS is a 5th generation handheld. If Handhelds were consoles, VGchartz would not seperate the sales on the main page. 

Apparently it is you that either cannot count or simply are not aware that home and portable consoles are not seperated into their own discrete generations.

Do you see any handheld listed in the first generation consoles? If there's no handheld listed in the first generation, then it is, by default, NOT possible for the 3DS to be apart of the 8th generation.
