So, yeah. Here is a list of what I think are some underrated anime.
Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru (And Yet the Town Moves): It's about a maid cafe. I'm not sure what to say beyond that except that it's a very surreal brand of humor. The characters can go from normal to very wierd at a moment's notice. I loved it.
Sakasama no Patema (Patema Inverted): An interesting movie about a girl who lives underground. The reason why she lives underground is that her people, unlike the surface dwellers, seem to be immune to gravity. I was really impressed with this.
Nagasarete Airantou: It's a harem anime but I found it to be funny and entertaining. It's about a boy who washes ashore on an island populated with only females. The culture is also stuck several hundred years in the past.
Muteki Kanban Musume (Ramen Fighter Miki): I love this one. Miki is a bad-ass ramen delivery girl always up for a fight. The only one who can beat her is her mom, who is tried of Miki's trouble-making. Miki is hilarous.
Renkin San-kyuu Magical? Pokaan: Both cute and sexy! Monster girls! Yay!
Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai (Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi): I consider this one to be way underrated. It's hilarious yet it has a serious theme running through it about death and the consequences of running away from reality. Two kids, with the real world holding the painful moments of growing up, find themselves falling from one crazy dimension to the next. It was a fantastic adventure.
Bamboo Blade: About a High School Kendo club and the very small, quiet, otaku girl who happens to be a prodigy. It has some really good characters who each have their own motivations. Also, Tama-chan is incredibly adorable.
Bungaku Shoujo (Book Girl): A rather mysterious and melancholy tale about a girl who literally consumes books.
Gokujo: It's vulgar, ridiculous, and hilarous. It's a bunch of short episodes about how girls really act. Well, if they're like the main character and have the manners of a thug. Warning - Girls Behaving Badly.
I'm tired now.
