In Episode 3, when  Palpatine tells Anakin the "Tale of Darth Plagueis the wise" in the opera they play a unique theme. The theme of Darth Plagueis. The play that same theme when Snoke shows up at Episode VII.

Wow that cant just be a coincidence. My problem with Plagueis being Snoke is that it seriously weakens Sidius, he was just another pawn in the scheme, Plagueis managed to orchestrate everything from the shadows and Sidius never noticed.

It doesn't weaken him, because Plagueis was hiding in the Outer Rim. SIdious was investigating a dark power he felt in the Outer Rim. He didn't know it was his old master. He sent forces to investigate it. When Vader killed him Sidious, Snoke/Plagueis took the opportunity to fill the power vacuum left by his demise. The First Order is made up of the Imperial forces that Sidious sent to the Outer Rim.

My only real issue with The Force Awakens is that it does a poor job of explaining the dynamics of between the Republic/Rebellion and the Empire/First Order. I basically figured it out, but a lot of people didn't. I can see why. There have been novels and comics that do explain it in detail, but you shouldn't have to read outside materials. I think they were worried about having too much exposition after the prequels and dropped the ball in this regard. The movie was still good but they could added a paragraph to the crawl that would have taken 5 to 10 seconds to read to set the stage for the universe.
