Sony is going to come out the gate with a better product, that is easier to use, eaiser to develop for, and more agile. PS VR will spark the VR fire, and Sony will build a giant base around thier ecosystem. On the other hand Oculus will come out slow, and will face a lot of issues due to the nature of running in the wild west PC arena. In time, however, the issues will phase out as cheap PC's and MAC's become powerful enough to utilize the tech. Do to the larger varity of options, and that fact that no matter how much better one product is than everything else, you can never get everyone to buy into it. By 2020, I see PSVR setting around 80 - 100M and Oculus in the 30 - 40M range. By 2025, PS VR should be around 250M sold with Oculus reaching about 400M. |
By 2020 many peopel expect the ps4 to have sold 90-110 million units so the psvr selling 80-110 million seems unreasonable. I can see the oculus selling 30-40m by 2020.

It's funny how your reasoning makes it look like you think both are free devices. Apparently the Occulus Rift is gonna be veeery expensive, it needs a high end PC to function and it doesn't work on X1 for games. That's already a lot of things going against it. Then you have the PSVR, it has a strong gaming brand behind it, it has the VR in its name so it's gonna be hella easy for their marketing team. And the design is much better. But all things considered, none of them is gonna sell a lot, VR is gonna start slowly (unless we see a 299€ PSVR). |
I don't make it seem like its free, its just that pc gamers spend 1k+ on their build so i can see pc gamers spending $400-$500 on an Oculus Rift, and the pc community is large with 200m+ active steam users.
And yes the PSVR will be associated with a strong gaming brand that's why I think it can sell pretty well.

If it is expensive or not is very subjective. PSVR will cost at least 100% of the PS4 main console, probably more if you don't already have the PS4 camera ($50 - $60) and two move controllers (2x $25 - $30 each). None of your already bought PS4 games will be PSVR compatible. If you already have a PC with the Oculus recommendation, the Oculus VR will cost you around 30 - 40% of the price of the main system. A lot of your already bought PC games will be OculusVR compatible. |
I agree with you there 100%
