It's just an inconsistency made from the series. Obviously Luke should have had an awakening but at the time the idea of "awakening" wasn't thought of yet. The jump from originals to prequels also have similar inconsistencies. It's an inevitable problem when it's a work that spans as long as it has with different directors with different visions. What they should've done is try to think out stuff for future Star Wars movies once they realized SW was a success, but that didn't happen. However, JJ was responsible for keeping things as consistent as possible and I believe he did a fairly good job at that. Perhaps her awakening will be expanded upon in future episodes but I don't know.

Also I found this sentence from my 2 paragraphs actually summed up my point well, "Each new trilogy is going to have a different feeling from the one before it and because of that it creates a community that'll never be fully satisfied. "

Nah, I didn't. To be quite honest I barely know anyone by their username. I know people by their avi's XD

Really?  An inconsistency?  With all due respect, that's the best you could come up with?  I call it a shortcut.  Why have Rey train over the next three movies to get to the point where she can defeat Kylo Ren when we can just have her touch the lightsaber and voila!  Villain defeated.  There was no sense of her overcoming.  She just kicked ass immediately.  Even in those crappy Rocky sequels they would have a five minute training montage to show how he overcame insurmountable odds.  In Rocky IV he had to run up a mountain in SIberia before he beat Ivan Drago!

I agree with that statement for the most part.  That being said, the prequel trilogy felt more like the OT in my opinion while the Force Awakens looked more like the OT if you understand where I'm coming from.

Let me guess.  You thought that guy with the Evil Dead avatar would do this, didn't you?

Well she was already good with a staff as shown on Jakku, so it's not like she didn't know how to fight. Even the awakening really wasn't that bad since she only knew how to weild a lightsaber and grab it with the force from long distances. The only real problem I had with her awakening was that she could use the Jedi Mindtrick. I'm not sure how well known the Jedi Mindtrick is (however there is a general idea of what it is because on multiple occasions people who arent force senstive bring it up) -but just knowing about it shouldn't be enough to use it. Because in that moment, she had really only just become aware of her power. Her ability to fight I can get, her being able to grab things with the force, I don't mind. But how she casually uses the mind trick was weird.

Yeah, I agree. Prequels definitely have more of the feel than the look. That could be in part due to George Lucas' involvement though. And yeah, the new one definitely looks more like the OT for sure.

I'm not sure who I thought would make the thread XD I usually avoid movie discussions. The last one I paid attention to was Jurassic World. I just knew I'd see a thread title like this
