You are seriously comparing the nostalgic effects of franchises such as Star Wars or Jurassic to Avatar? A movie that most people went to see for its visuals and 'perfect storm world event' impact? Avatar 2 won't even match the original's unadjusted gross, let alone make 3 billion. Most people who have seen Avatar do not want a sequel.

I think your underestimating Cameron as a director by saying it has no chance.  T2 is pretty much the best sequel ever and one of the most success sequels also.  If Avatar 2 comes close to improving upon the first movie like T2 did with the first Terminator movie there is actually a pretty good chance of it making $3 billion.

I think you might be overestimating him. I don't even see how the success of Terminator 2 can help you see Avatar 2 making the amount of cash you're expecting it to do. First of all, T2 is like the ONLY sequel Cameron has ever done, and it was 25 years ago. Secondly, Terminator and Avatar are 2 very , very different things. T2 was an R rated quality blockbuster, which at the time, landed in a market in dire need of such movies. Avatar 2 is Cameron's desire to create an universe that leaves its mark on the industry forever before he retires, and he acts upon this solely based on Avatar's incredible success. It is a forced and unnecessary sequel, but I guess we'll have to wait and see the drops for ourselves.
